TOPIC: 1st Birthday Dilema!

1st Birthday Dilema! 6 years 2 months ago #1627

My Daughter will be 1 in April and obviously we want to mark the occasion in some way because it's an important birthday but we don't want to go OTT. Ideally we would like to have a family gathering at home with a few nibbles and birthday cake. The main problem is that we live in a small maisonette and there is no way we will have the room to entertain 17 people including of course my daughter who may be walking by then and a hyper two year old. It would be very stressful and very unfair on the kiddies who really need space to run around. There is also no option to do it at anyone else's house. (We have asked my brother in law and wife as they entertain all the time and have big enough house but they didn't seem keen on helping us! Thanks!) Wouldn't be worth hiring a hall. We would maybe do this when she is a bit older and has a group of friends and hire soft play.

So what are the alternatives? A friend suggested Bocketts Farm which would be lovely but we can't really plan this in advance as it depends on the weather and what do we do about food? I have been trying to find out if there are any Family friendly pubs in the area (we live in Byfleet) which might have an indoor play area but all I have found so far are pubs with outdoor play areas which again is fine if the weather is good but we can't plan ahead for that. I would really appreciate any suggestions! :S

Hi Mayzee

Yes I see your dilemma! Us mums feel under such pressure to give the kids a really special day don't we and it always comes with worries about this & that. I think the Bocketts Farm idea is a good one as they have a large indoor section with soft play, trampolines, tractors, plenty of animals to feed & pet and the added advantage of loads of lovely outdoor space, animals & equipment should the whether stray dry. We spent a lovely day there for my little girl's 2nd birthday and did dash indoors during a few showers but because of the indoor space the rain didn't spoil the day. The food was quite nice too with a large indoor restaurant with both adult & children's menus - and if its fine there are plenty of picnic tables. I think it is venue for all weathers! Good luck with the search & a very happy 1st birthday to your little one!

Jess

Thanks Jess!
Don't think I'll need to look any further, sounds perfect! That's if it's within our budget! Will take a look at their website.;)
