RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

This is not always the most inspiring time of year - so hopefully our weekly guide to the family activities on offer will give you some ideas. Don't forget to head to our what's on calendar for more ideas and information...

The weekend starts here ...

Take part in a Big Garden Birdwatch at Haslemere Museum on Saturday. This event offers a chance for families to have fun together making bird cakes, doing craft activities and discovering the birds in both the museum grounds and galleries. You can take part anywhere in the UK from the comfort of your own home. You just need to note which birds land in your garden for an hour over the weekend or Monday. More info here.

For some arts and crafts fun together as a family, head to the Make Space at Watts Gallery on Sunday. Visitors can simply drop in and try out some different art materials and techniques.

The Lingfield Antiques, Collectables and Vintage Fair takes place on Sunday at Lingfield Park Racecourse. There will be 130 fantastic indoor stalls bristling with all variety of amazing unique and unusual items as well as live singing.

Every day...

There's a Giant Houseplant Takeover at RHS Wisley. Step into a house reclaimed by its plants long after its human inhabitants have left. A banana has pushed through the roof, carnivorous plants feast in the dining room and cacti play chess. A few plants have grown rather too large and tower over their relatives.

The Winter Woolies trail has opened at Claremont Landscape Garden. Dress up warm and see what you can find at the site as the seasons change. Children will love following this wintery trail around the garden, which will give them the perfect outdoor escape.

The rest of the week

Socialise your little one (and yourself) at Toddler Time at Rydes Hill Prep on Wednesday. This is a free weekly session but you should book your place in advance in case it is busy.

Head down to the woods on Thursday to take part in the weekly Wild Tots at Nower Wood session. Activities are likely to include things like woodland arts and crafts, stories, games, musical instruments, forest exploration, a mud kitchen, hunting for mini-beasts and lots of woodland fun! The site is accessible for buggies/prams.

A Trails and Tails event at Gatton Park on Friday is based on the theme of Where the Wild Things Are. Little ones can enjoy the story and go for a walk in the park to bring it to life before enjoying an arts and crafts activity. Book this in advance.

Little Peppa Pig fans might enjoy having tea with their favourite character at Piglets on Friday afternoon. The event includes a sit down party tea and plenty of opportunities with Peppa as well as the usual Piglets soft play fun! Book this in advance.

Nothing much to report on the weather front this week - just more of the clouds and showers you would expect at this time of year. Take a coat with you and enjoy your week!
