Surrey Mummy is loving…the new Explorer Glamping at Chessington World of Adventures

A night under canvas and two days of thrills, excitement and animals – what’s not to like? The new Explorer Glamping experience at Chessington World of Adventures is definitely one of those treats you won’t want to tell the kids about too early!

This activity really is the ultimate sleepover that will have your little ones bursting with excitement from the minute you tell them about it.

We were lucky enough to try out the Explorer Glamping on its launch night and we thoroughly enjoyed every second from the minute we arrived.

The idea behind this new attraction is to allow families two full days at the park (for the price of one) with an overnight safari style stay in a cosy canvas glamping tent.

For anyone who hasn’t come across glamping before, it’s camping but with much more comfort and style. A standard canvas tent at Chessington includes:

  • A (very comfy) double bed and two single beds with all linen provided
  • Wooden flooring
  • Rugs
  • A mirror
  • Wi-Fi
  • Power sockets
  • A clothes rail

The toilet and shower blocks are communal but there are loads of them and they are very nice.

There are also larger premium tents available with extra space – families with a baby would need to book one of these and take their own travel cot.

The campsite itself is set up around great coir pathways – avoiding sogginess if there was any rain. It also has pretty fairy lights all the way round, which makes it really attractive but also nice and light if you get up in the night for the loo!

There is a mini wooded area at the side of the site that the kids can play in safely until dark – it is all fenced off at the other side so you can allow them that extra bit of freedom to explore without having to worry.

For added dramatic effect, the giant stone cobra (from the Kobra ride) looms over the campsite and looks even more sinister at night when it is illuminated with a green glow.

Your stay also includes:

  • A fantastic buffet breakfast (giving you much needed fuel for a full day at the park!)
  • Access to the Explorers' Outpost restaurant for dinner
  • An hour in the park’s Wild Asia section with exclusive access to the rides after closing time (we especially enjoyed having the Tuk Tuk dodgems to ourselves!)
  • Exclusive fast track tickets for the first hour of the day
  • Two days for one on your park tickets

The children just have an absolutely brilliant time with all the excitement of the theme park and zoo along with the luxury camping experience.

We only spent one day in the park and although we managed to fit LOADS in, I can definitely see why two days would be a good idea because there are so many shows that we would have loved to watch and plenty more rides we would have tried if we'd had more time.

Top tip: Take time out from the big rides and attractions to discover a little gem hidden in the corner of the Wild Asia section - Lorikeet Lagoon. In here you can see these amazing colourful and sociable little birds up close and even feed them - our girls were ecstatic when the birds landed on them.

Prices for the Explorer Glamping experience vary depending on the type of tent you go for and when you book it, but we would definitely recommend the experience.
